Chicago Area Tune Shops

I own a 2001 Lexus GS430. When I bought the car is had a Swift Racing Technologies intake and an acceleration chip.

A few months ago my cats went bad and I may have replaced the center part with pipes for the time being. I am looking to get a tune to just get my check engine light to turn off. I do not know if this would be possible to done with a access port and a re-flash or would a full ECU tune be needed? Are their any shops in the area that specializes in Lexus?

I have received a rough quote for $1500 for a full ECU tune with a mild performance tune. Is this going to pretty standard?

Hesitation at 4KRpm and up

So today I finally fixed my o2 sensor which was messing up the whole car it was making it misfire and go into limp mode. So I bought a Denso one and so far no more check engine light but the only issue with the car is that 4K up it has a bit hesitation and kinda goes but no check engine light. My instant response thought was I probably need new spark plugs (keep in mind I did run the car for about a week with open headers to bypass my o2 sensor. So what should I start checking?

2020 BMW 3-series vs. 2020 Genesis G70: Which Is the Better Compact Luxury Sports Sed

About time we got a proper test.

https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...0-genesis-g70/

The Bottom Line

All things being equal, you have to pick the BMW M340i here. It’s significantly quicker, its powertrain is more refined, and it has the richer interior, larger back seat, and bigger trunk. But all things aren’t equal. Our BMW test car cost the price of a new Nissan Versa more than the Genesis, and it’s the G70 that rides better and has more than enough performance and handling for 90 percent of drivers 95 percent of the time. Compared to the M340i, the G70 3.3T Sport represents an incredible value. It does everything nearly as well as the BMW, and it even manages to do a few things better. And you won’t be disappointed when hustling it around or when put your right foot down. It convincingly does both speed and luxury at a discount that the M340i, good as it is, struggles to overcome.

Headlight shutoff delay timer setting

Is it possible to adjust the setting so the headlight goes off immediately after you lock the car? I haven't found the 30 second of headlight useful and would just prefer it to be off. Is this option buried somewhere in the infotainment screen?

I've looked through the owners manual and searched around google/forum and hasn't found relevant info. It seems like for 2IS, this requires a visit to the dealer and have them adjust this via their scan tool.

My thoughts on the Mazda 3 hatch

My ongoing quest to replace our Matrix XRS 2.4 continues. We test drove a Mazda 3 hatch.

Great performance. Lovely interior materials. The center digital display was nice.
The inside reminds me of Lexus type materials....and ride and the performance reminds very close to an F-Sport type Lexus model

Unfortunately, Mazda 3 is just not the car for me.

Ebay cheap headers question

Hey guys I want to ask about some cheap headers I saw on eBay (sorry I don't know how to saw you the link). The price is just 100 $ and I want to ask if anyone has install those.Acording to Mr Paul from PPE and RRracing review the PPE headers don't give any gains at all to a supercharged IS like mines and I m thinking that the only think I want to do is free the OEM manifolds from the restrictive cats so the cheap ones could do the same job wright? They have short tubes not like the PPE ones and I contacted them but they told me that these headers are not made for supercharged IS .PPE headers for NA IS and supercharged are the same so I don't understand the diference.A help from exchast guru s will be much apreciated.
Thank you

I just purchases a 2007 LS460 that has less than 44,000 miles on it. I'm wondering if I should replace the shocks/struts since they are now about 13 years old even though the mileage is still low. Any brand recommendations would be appreciated as well.

Getting out of a brand new car lease

Long story short, I leased a Lexus that was already too expensive for me. So the next day, I tried returning the car but they said it was already too late given there is no cool-off period. I am desperate to get out of this lease big time, as a week after leasing the car I was also laid off from my job, so I am basically ***-out and have no money at all, much yet a sports car. I am truly regretful. How can I get out of the lease without hurting my credit or taking out a large sum of money? My payments are close to $800.mo.

2018 Rx350 Bluetooth disconnecting

2018 RX350: Bluetooth has suddenly begun to spontaneously disconnect (Android or IPhone with up-to-date software) and not reconnecting. In trying to remove a device and add it again, the program slows and never connects. The devices may momentarily recognize the vehicle on start-up and are then dropped with a Lexus device no longer found on the phones.
Any ideas aside from going to the dealer?
Thanks.

TRD Door Stabilizer Brace

After reading this and some other ancient threads, I decided to give them a try:
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc4...tabilizer.html

The main reason I was willing to try this was because in the Miata community, "Delrin door bushings" is a pretty popular mod to stiffen the chassis (same idea). I did that mod on the Miata and was pleasantly surprised that it was noticeable... Fortunately, it was only a $40 gamble on the Miata to the $120 for an authentic TRD part for this car, lol.

In the thread above they reference the part for a GT86 (FRS/BRZ), that part number is:
TRD Part #MS304-18001

There is also another model which is called the "common" type, which is for any car. They have a slightly different design. I just went with the GT86 one since that's what all the previous posts were about.

I didn't use any shims or anything like the first dude in Japan. I could always go back and add them later. It was a 15min install each side, if that. You need a T40 & T30 Torx and I used a plastic pry tool to take off the original cover. I gave it a nice rubdown with Shin-Etsu after the install too.

It definitely takes more pressure to close the door, it sounds snug. I haven't driven it yet as I have other projects in progress. I'll update when I do.

I got them here, best price I could find after scouring the internet for a price low enough to convince me to do this:
https://www.blackhawkjapan.com/produ...f96f65ef&_ss=r

I really like that from a distance, no one will ever notice them. Only a real car person would take note of the "TRD" logo on the door plate. Most of the pics of them online are up close, so they look like they would be very noticable, but they aren't in real life.

All-new Volkswagen Golf

$
0
0

This is the all-new, eighth-generation Volkswagen Golf, and while its world premiere would have received undivided attention in the past, the Golf must now share its fame. That's because VW almost simultaneously launched the ID.3, the electric car of Golf-like format that the company believes will take a decisive leap into electric mobility.

But the ID.3 is tardy: Launched static at the Frankfurt auto show, it won't come to dealers before the second half of 2020. By contrast, this new 2020 Golf will hit European dealers in significant numbers before the end of 2019.

Stylistically, the new Golf represents an evolutionary approach. In fact, its dimensions have hardly changed: it is just slightly stretched and slightly lower than its predecessor, and its drag coefficient drops to below 0.28. The round front end is accentuated by a slim headlamp-grille combination that looks quite futuristic — and sets itself apart from the aggressive grille openings sported by many a competitor.

The side mirrors look sporty, and Ferdinand Piëch would have taken pride in the precision joints and gaps. Less impressive is the convoluted chrome strip on the rear that surrounds an imaginary twin-flow exhaust, as well as the new "Volkswagen" text on the B-pillar. Aren't the VW badges enough? Even if they have been subtly redesigned?

VW has killed the two-door Golf for good, and a return of the convertible is beyond hope. We do expect to see another wagon and Alltrack version for Europe, but their sale in the United States is doubtful. In fact, a Volkswagen sportsperson tells Autoblog that only the GTI and Golf R have been confirmed for North America, while the regular Golf is "still under consideration." Here's hoping that consideration ends with a decision of "yes." If it does, we'd likely see it at the end of next year as a 2021 model.

Inside the new Golf, the analog world is gone and the changes are indeed far more radical inside than on the outside. There are no classic instruments here. Even in basic trim, large TFT screens in front of the driver sport a fully digital display. There is an optional "Innovision" cockpit that offers considerably more functions. In terms of infotainment, you can move digital tiles on the central screen; simple buttons and rotary switches make way for soft digital sliders, and optional voice control. A full head-up display completes the beautiful digital world.

In Europe, the ultra-high-end Dynaudio sound system has been purged from the order forms. It is replaced by a Harman Kardon-branded unit. The U.S. models, should they appear, seem likely to stay with Fender.

On the European model, there are a variety of assistance systems that monitor the driver and take corrective action as they deem necessary. Wolfsburg even aims to get rid of the key and replace it with a smartphone app. The "We Connect Plus" app allows the driver to access numerous functions remotely. Moreover, nosy Alexa is ready to satisfy the driver's curiosity — and its own.

On a very positive note, you can still row through the gears yourself. In fact, Volkswagen has developed an entirely new, low-friction six-speed manual that reduces fuel consumption significantly. Above that, there are seven-speed dual-clutch automatics.

In Europe, the engine lineup remains diverse; With diesel, gas, hybrid and natural gas powertrains, the new Golf stays in the golden path of technological variety. There are 1.0-liter three-cylinder gas (TSI) engines with 90 and 110 horsepower, as well as 1.5-liter four-cylinder TSI units with 130 and 150 horsepower, fitted with cylinder deactivation and optional 48-volt mild hybridization. The 1.6 TDI engines are gone, but there are two ultra-efficient and extremely clean 2.0-liter TDI engines with 115 and 150 hp. Down the road, there will be a GTD with a TDI that makes around 200 horsepower, a GTI with around 240 horsepower and the Golf R with around 330 horsepower. In addition, there will be two plug-in hybrids with 204 or 245 horsepower, and even a TGI version that runs on natural gas. All-wheel drive will be offered as well.

The leap into the eighth generation seems a success, and many of the Golf's features, at least in Europe, could come straight from the luxury class. The question remains whether Volkswagen has met or surpassed the needs of its customers, and whether some will live in the United States. At the very least, this is our first look at what to expect from the next-generation VW GTI and Golf R.

2008 ISF- With RR Racing goodies

2008 Lexus ISF- Tastefully modified to get the best performance out of one of the best sports sedans available. Reliable, sophisticated and a joy to drive. I am the second owner of this car and have babied it for the last 5 years. This was a Las Vegas car and I bought it when I lived in Phoenix (we have been in Utah for the past 2 years). It has always been garaged and is not driven during the winter, therefore almost zero exposure to salted roads etc. For me it was the best of two worlds a family sedan, that acts like a race car. I have very mixed feelings about letting this car go, but I have an opportunity to do a big upgrade in terms of performance to another car, and unfortunately it is time. Here is a list of Mods. I still have the OEM parts and it can be brought back to Stock.

· RR Racing Power Package w/intake: PPE Headers, Tune (handheld), Tuned Intake, carbon fiber intake elbow.

· RR Racing Motor mounts

· RR Racing USRS (Ultimate steering response system)

· RR Racing AOS

· Borla Race Exhaust (cat back)

· Bilstein shocks and Eibach springs

· SPC Performance ball joints (Front)

· Rear F-Sport sway bar

· HID Fog light upgrade

· 2015 RCF 20 Spoke wheels (19 x 9 Front & 19 x 10 rear)

With upgrades it is faster, handles better and feels more planted, not to mention sounds amazing! New 255/35R19 & 275/30R19 Michelin Pilot sport 4s were just installed in August and have very few miles on them. Excellent condition inside and out, Clean title.

This is really specific, but I've got a DBall2 doing remote start in my 2013 and I'd really like to have it trigger the window and mirror defroster. Has anyone done that before, or know roughly how I could make it happen?
