2007 350 UL edition's Grille Finish: Is it Chrome or Matte Grey

Can anyone confirm that their front grille finish on a 2007 ES 350 UL edition is chrome? My car is the

I recall my grille being chrome when I purchased it used a few months ago. Last week the car had to go visit the dealership as the alternator needed to be replaced. They had it for a few days and told me that the radiator broke while they were working on it and they replaced it with a new one. That part is o.k. But, while I was inspecting the front today when picking up the car, I noticed that the grille was a dull matte grey finish. I recall seeing my grille previously in chrome.I originally wanted to do the black vinyl wrap for it and decided against it as chrome was o.k. The dealership says that they did not touch it and had no need to replace it.
Unfortunately I do not have a good before/ after pics to be certain. Am not sure if I am being paranoid or if it was always matte grey and my past experiences with the dealership are not clouding my judgement.

Thanks,

2017 IS300 FSport Backup Camera Split Screen Issue?

Hi All!

Just purchased a Lexus IS300 F Sport Series 2 here in Canada, have had it for about a week and a half. Today I noticed that when putting the car into R, the backup camera screen is split with the navigation map. Just before this afternoon the backup camera would show on the full screen.

Thinking back to when I first noticed this, it was when I put the car into R before the warning message on the screen cleared. Tried looking through the settings but no luck finding a setting to fix this. Does anyone have any ideas how to get back to the full screen? Or would this require a nav system reset. I will try and go to the dealer sometime in the upcoming week.

Thanks in advance!

Lexus ES Reliability vs my 2015 Mercedes-Benz C300 and 2016 BMW 320xi

Hey all, I just wanted to share some thoughts about my Lexus ES' reliability, especially as compared to my '15 Mercedes-Benz C300 and '16 BMW 320xi (the Germans are leases, the Lexus is owned free and clear).

My Lexus ES has 35,000 miles on it, and has been in the shop for... scheduled maintenance and a flat tire... But the satellite radio is going out too often compared to my other cars (and in absolutely random places the other cars don't go out) so I'm going to bring that up with the dealer.

My Mercedes has 31,000 miles on it, and here's what it's had thus far (all but fumes were under 24,000 miles): randomly failing head unit, all pistons replaced in the engine (an issue that's both poorly documented by the manufacturer and well documented by owners), the keyless entry system failing, the car failing to start with the push button, extreme rattling and creaking coming from the headliner, broken buttons, blind spot and collision prevention systems failing, and probably more that I'm forgetting to be honest (I remember some Bluetooth and mbrace problems originally). Oh, and fumes coming from the ventilation system due to a leaking fuel line.

My BMW has 8,900 miles on it, and actually hasn't had any issues yet. I like that the maintenance is included for 4 years and 50,000 miles, too. It's going in for its first service this week.

Despite all the issues, the Mercedes is still my favorite if I'm being honest, but I hate it as much as I love it :). The engineering in that car and technology and everything else is amazing, and it's really fun to drive (for what it is — a sport sedan with a turbo four) and very luxurious (except for the ride which, while good, could be much better if it didn't have run-flat tires, and for the creaking and rattling, which drives me crazy and which the dealer won't fix). But the reliability and dependability: I'd never own it without a warranty (interesting because my '09 GL had a warranty up to 120k miles and Benz probably paid out $20k on that warranty, but from 120k to 135k it was bulletproof, and my '13 GL had a coolant leak at like 12k miles but was bulletproof after that to 75k miles).

But I love my Lexus for it's super comfortable seats (it's debatably a more comfortable car to drive than the Mercedes, but nowhere near as engaging and fun, despite being quicker — but we all know that), ventilated seats, wood/leather steering wheel (although the Benz one is much better to grip), and the fact that everything just works, it always works, and I never have to worry about breaking it down — that peace of mind is priceless (especially when you put a lot of miles on it, which I will be doing now but didn't do before on this car — possibly 35k per year or more — and because I don't have to worry about miles on the car because it's owned outright, not a lease like the others). And because the Lexus service experience is so much better... they have loaners available if you need one immediately because you get a flat (or break down, if that ever happens as long as you do scheduled maintenance) where Mercedes wouldn't have one for weeks (literally weeks — ask any dealer in the tri-state area), and maybe days if you break down (happened to me, but I'm lucky enough to have multiple cars), and the Lexus dealers always seem to just fix whatever's wrong... not require you to bring your car in 10 times for the same issue (haven't had to have a "fixing" experience with the ES, but have with the LXs).

Both of my Lexus LXs (when we had them) were wonderfully reliable and always gave us an amazing service experience.

Now our '86 300ZX, that's a different beast... '15 Jeep Grand Cherokee has been good too thus far (have a lifetime warranty on this one, good when it drives 35k miles per year), same with '15 Jeep Cherokee.

Although Porsches have been pretty reliable in my experience, too.

So yeah, here's some Lexus praise, especially compared to the Germans.

I damaged the body component on the passenger side just below the door on my step mom's 02 SC430 ( the narrow strip that runs from Wheel to wheel).

I have tried to locate the part online with negative results. Can anyone point me in the right direction or at least give me a part number question mark I have attached photos below of the body component I damaged.

Thanka to all!

if I replaced the rack and module, do you have to run/calibrate or anything before you are able to actually turn the wheels? If I unplug the rack it will turn, plug it in and hard as a rock. Thought I would reach out before towing to the Dealer.
Thanks

2002 GS300 Chirping Noise

$

Hello All,

I'm getting a very annoying chirping noise when I depress the brakes while driving. Even if not driving, I can press on the accelerator, then the brakes and get the chirping noise. It will do anywhere from 2 to 7 short chirps and they are not faint, quiet chirps either. There is no problem with the functioning of the brakes when this happens. Is there any way to fix this without replacing the entire ABS unit? I don't think I should have to spend $2500 to get rid of a sound. This has got to be some kind of Lexus error in design as I've never experience this in any other vehicle.

Help!!

Where do ls430s go when owners age?

$

As many of us on this forum are always looking for low mileage LS430s I thought this might be an appropriate thread. As the last of the LS430s are getting on in age (04-06) what happens to these cars or more importantly, what do the their owners decide when ready to sell? Lexus owners are very dedicated and keep their cars a long time. When the time comes to stop driving, their aides start driving them or the owners die and leave them to the family. In both case scenarios....the family usually wants to get rid of these cars quickly as many are not aware of their worth. Bottom line...Unless you might know an ederly person that drives our great car....the car will go to the family or be traded in (for nothing) for something more practical if they are still driving. This is the point. The LS430 is getting on in years and unless found with the lower miles from original owners will eventually become abused and worn out cars passing hands from 4-6 owners. Too bad. However....there are still a few treasures out there! Good Luck my friends. Happy Hunting!!!!!

Aux not working 2008 GX :/

$

This is a 2008 GX470 with navigation and the factory Aux plug. I've done a LOT of searching in the archives here and can't find anything that addresses my situation, though some things come close.

The audio is not recognizing the Aux input. Either when using the Mode button or when pushing the DVD-Aux button on the head unit. So far I have tried:

Replacing the Aux plug with a new one, since this seems to be the most common failure point. No joy.

Different aux cords with iPhone attached. I've tried it with the iPhone connected and playing something and with only the cord connected. No joy.

I tried "resetting" the Aux by turning the audio off when set on FM, turning off the car, then plugging in the iPhone into the Aux, turning on the car and turning on the audio (this was described by someone in the forums as working for them). No joy.

I tested both seat heaters to make sure they were working (someone had the seat heater plug plugged into the Aux by mistake). No joy.

Haven't tried yet:

Someone indicated something was unplugged on the head unit. I hadn't tried that, yet, since it involves tearing the console open.

Someone else had to have their head unit replaced. Sounds expensive.

I recently bought this vehicle and the Aux hasn't worked since I bought it. Note that the dash replacement service was done soon before it was traded in. It is possible that the tech screwed something up in the process of replacing the dash, but I have no way of knowing that.

Any suggestions?
