Not quite sure if Im meant to continue posting on the old thread I made. In any case, progress on the timing belt job has been good; Ive been able to work on it, on and off, for around 8 hours now.
Here is a photo of the engine bay currently: engine bay in its entirety
You may notice in the previously photo that the previous owner had actually done the timing belt job before (or the previous previous owner). The car does not need this job. Everything is lined up as it should; however, I am sure that theres likely a crank or cam seal leak, so Ill be continuing onward to finish the job. As you can see, the amount of oil and sludge covering this engine is somewhat unbelievable. Amazes me that someone would drive around in this condition, with the engine squirting oil everywhere. 2 nuts holding the fan clutch had to be chiseled off after being rounded with a wrench
It appeared that when he went to finish up his job, he had overtightened the fan clutch nuts. 2 were stripped, and had to be chiseled. The previous owner also wasnt using green coolant: a no no. It also appeared that he was doing his own kind of craftsman ship when it came to the wiring harness.
Now, at my current stage, I am attempting to remove this crank position sensor, but its is giving me trouble. i have been entirely unable to simply remove the connection by pushing the top part in and pulling; so i ask, should I remove the bolt holding the entire sensor in and remove it? Or is there a better way to just unplug it. Thank you in advance. CPS from underneath CPS
While removing the timing belt upper covers, distributors, and rotors (all of which were covered in oil), I discovered that the rotors had cracked. Now, could this be the reason that the car would not start? Of course I shall be replacing these, but should I also replace the distributors while Im at it? How do i determine if they are in good condition? Broken ignition rotor
I also discovered, not long after beginning, that the valve covers were leaking, and perhaps the major source of oil in the engine bay. So the gaskets and spark plug tubes will need to be replaced as well. I hear the passenger side is quite troublesome. Driver side VC leak: Passenger side is not nearly as bad
So it will be quite the job. Timing belt/water pump, rotors, valve cover gaskets. Now Im stuck wondering what else could be wrong on this vehicle and will require fixing. I had a battery in it a week ago, and it cranked thankfully. So the starter is alright. But now im wondering if the alternator is now destroyed from the msssive amount of oil which was flung on it, if the power steering is okay, if the sensors have been damaged from the oil, if the cylinders are good, if theres some other issue the prev owner found insurmountable. Oh well: 300 dollar car, now over 600.
Any tips, advice, comments are very appreciated. Thanks!
2716 Pressure Control Solenoid "D" Electrical (Shift Solenoid Valve SLT). Was driving my 07/160k km es350 on hiway and vsc/MIL/red triangle came on. No other symptoms. Checked codes at home and P2716 pulled. Local transmission shop did a quick check of oil (full and signs of overheating?) and recommended I come back and they will pull the pan and based on that , may do an oil /filter etc change etc. Any comments on fault/approach?
I have installed PPE headers, exhaust and F sport intake.
The car pulls harder and is alive after 4000 RPM and the exhaust note is music to my ears after 4000.
The car idles fine and has not changed at all, feels stock.
My question, videos online and people I talk with say a tune is a MUST after all my mods, I am not planning on doing a tune, will this effect my motor long term?
If I have to do a tune.
I am in Sydney Australia, not many Lexus tuners around I was thinking RR Racing tune (headers, intake, exhaust package) mailed out and file emailed out. Do you think this is safe and recommended way to tune ?
Howdy:
Newbie, just purchased a creampuff here in SoCal with 89k on the clock. Pearl white with black. What a rig these are! Really quite excited! Replaces a stunning '04 LS430 and our 4x4, K2500 Sub.. Thanks Lexus for dreamin such a rig up! Best, RW
Having the problem where front passenger's window is most likely not closing fully. Once going at the certain speed and increasing it - you can hear wind whining noise from the window top, if to click and hold on window button to close the window - wind sound disappears. Is the regulator somehow bad and is there a way to fix this window issue?
I own a Lexus GS300H 2014. I reset the maintenance due warning by making sure odometer was in the trip A position then holding down the ODO button whilst depressing the engine start twice without depressing the brake pedal and waiting for the flashing zero's to stop.
I now have a warning coming up on the dash saying 'resetting of maintenance data incomplete'. Does anyone know how I can get rid of this message?
I have used an OBD2 tester to check if any faults but saying No faults detected.

I have a 2009 Lexus RX350 of which I am very happy, but I have an issue with the rear wiper. The wiper work, but doesnt clean the window, I have the impression it does not press hard enough on the glass.

I couldn't find any info on this thread so anyway, right now I have rear LED turn signals, so now I want to add front LED turn signals but this new item claims it does not need resistors, will it work ?
Edited: So I just checked the manufacturers site on the LED that I have right now, it states:
ONLY good for front or rear AO (Amber-Off-Amber-Off) type turn signal light use (Can't be used for both front and rear together)
Warning: Replace EITHER the front or the rear turn signal bulbs, but you can't replace both, otherwise you will still get hyper flash; You CAN'T use it for constant light up such as driving lights, daytime running lights; Even though these LED replacement bulbs will not hyper flash on turn signal lights, but they are still NOT "Error Free" for European cars; There is a protection IC inside, so each turn signal cycle cannot exceed 8 minutes
Hello everyone, I own a 2004 LS430 with 258,000+ miles. I can never find a reason to get rid of this car because it just won't die. I also own a 2013 LS460 (which I am decidedly iffy about (d*mn engine noise irritates the h*ll out of me) even though interior is generally nicer and seats more comfortable (no surprise) than its much older sibling). Back to the main point. I have never skimped on service for the LS430, which may be why it won't die. The question at hand...should I change the timing belt at 270K miles? I have previously changed the belt at 90K and 180K. I probably should have it changed, but wanted to get some advice / insight from others. I would take it to the local Lexus shop (Davenport) and have them do the work as I have zero mechanical inclination. Thoughts? The change or not to change? I plan on keeping the car until it quits or one my kids take me up on my offer to give the car. I don't drive the car much these...typically once a week and for not more than 30-50 miles. Appreciate thoughts / feedback. Happy motoring.
Hello,
I am looking at a 2009 GX470 with 60k miles at a local dealer. Very clean, new tires. No timing belt/water pump replacement done yet. 1 owner. Dealer asking $21900. I would appreciate thoughts on price. Thanks very much in advance!
According to website, the 2020 non-F RC (300 & 350) is to arrive next month. Despite the recent facelift, there must must be some minor add-on or Lexus would have slipped the 2020 in on the DL just like it did last month for the 2020 IS which is a 2019 carbon copy.
I'm suspecting no design changes but maybe add-ons like Android Auto, heads-up display, and power folding side mirrors. What do you think?
FINALLY after YEARS of searching, I found a ES with cloth seats!!! Pretty interesting to see considering the fact that basically 99% of 2007-2012 ESs have leather heated/cooled seats (Ive never seen one without cooled seats either). Its even a low mileage one! This is very interesting. It doesnt even have Bluetooth or a Wood/Leather Steering Wheel, thats how you know this car has absolutely ZERO options....it seems kind of weird but I want to sit in this car in person just to do it lol.....https://www.carriomotorcars.com/inve...rio_motor_cars
Hi, I just installed a K&N Intake in my 07 IS350. However am not sure where to screw the bracket (picture below). Anyone have any idea where this needs to be bolted to the car?
I currently own a 2014 Gs350 and have been trying to locate the floor mats to the crafted line. I have the part number, but cannot find a set as they have been discontinued. Anyone have any suggestions as to how to locate a set? I found a set on lexuspartsnow, but a day after ordering my order was canceled due to them not being in stock. I was able to get the trunk mat ordered. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
