2000 RX300 Instrument Panel dead

About a week ago, my instrument panel (place that shows speedometer, etc) just went dead. It doesn't light up, the speedometer doesn't work, etc. So far the only things I've seen work are the headlight indicator light and the turn signal indicator lights. I'm hoping this is just a fuse, and also that someone can point me to exactly which fuse it might be. Or to any alternative explanations that spring to mind.

Carbon rear bumper diffuser by JPM

I finally received my carbon fiber rear bumper diffuser from JPM carbon on Ebay after waiting about a month! It comes fully glossed with a grill piece already included but poorly attached. The grilled is attached via bread wire tie (LOL), and is metal as opposed to the oem plastic grill. The carbon itself is about a 8-9/10 quality. You can see minor imperfections around the hard corners and edges but it is not noticeable unless you are holding a magnifying glass. The part is actually listed for about $650-$700 but I was able to haggle my way down to $500 before the price increase. I was able to get it that low since I did local pick up, so i'm not sure how much room there is to haggle without but I didn't wanna risk damaging the diffuser with delivery. They DO NOT secure the parts well at all. There is just one layer of foam and one layer of bubble wrap. I'm glad i did local pick up because the way they ship, doesn't look secure. There are no clips on the bottom so this part is obviously not OEM, and it's going to be mounted with 3M tape. It shouldn't be an issue since it'll be held in securely through the rear bumper panel and won't go anywhere. I was only able to snap a few pictures before I wrapped it back up. I should have it installed by tomorrow so stay tuned!

How to Reset the Range Function?

$

My 2013 when new would display ranges after fill-ups in the low 300 mile range. Over time the range after fill-ups kept getting lower and lower, and is now down to around 260 miles. To try to get better accuracy I have tried zeroing out every mileage function I can find, but still no luck.
Any suggestions?

Is there some hidden cumulative value that the vehicle uses? If so, maybe it's factoring all those trips in the past when I was towing a horse trailer. I use another truck for towing now, and would like to reset the Lexus so that the range starts out with a more realistic and current projection. My actual range is around 330 miles where and how I drive these days.

My "New" Car (Part 2)

I got the car on sunday, and began to clean the crap out of the car.

Along the way I fixed the AC servo motor with flying colors! I only had to push the little metal spacer up inside the motor. Awesome that I could fix it for free.

As for the door actuator, it was too complicating, since I attempted to open the door frame but I couldn't unlatch the outside door latch and key lock. I might just hand it off for someone to fix it.

I drove it around, and apparently it throws a check engine light, vsc light, and airbag light. I took it to autozone and found out that I have to replace knock sensor and oxygen sensor. It also shuttered and electronics turned off and on when I put it in L, 2nd gear, and overdrive button. Probably wasn't a good idea. Resetting ECU helped.

I LOVE THE CAR NEVERTHELESS. IT GIVES ME ISSUES AND I LOVE REPAIRING IT.

GS460 Tanabe exhaust install

Tanabe makes a first class product. Fit and finish are impeccable.
The sound quality is exactly what I wanted. Not harsh or raspy at all. At startup it has a deeper tone. Taken right up to 6500 it sounds very clean. Not objectionable at all.
I’ve installed Corsa, Miltek Magnaflow and TRD. None had the quality, fit and sound the Tanabe produced.
The 460 did have a lot to do with it though also.

Okay, I loaned my car to my wife to drive for one day because her car is in the shop for warranty repair. She managed to spill coffee into the menu, zoom, and map buttons and now they stick when pressed. The buttons still work fine but when pushed will not come back up without lots of finger nail prying.

Does anyone have a schematic or instructions on how to take this appart to clean?

Will non conductive electrical cleaner clean the coffee behind the buttons without causing damage to trim, plastic, leather or wood?

Thanks!

How much can a manual transmission IS300 cost?

$

Hey guys, my Lexus got rear ended and for sure it's probably going to get totaled. If getting it back to its original condition at a body shop costs too much for me, I'm thinking about getting a new car.

I always wanted a IS300 since it's one of the few cars within Lexus that has a manual transmission, the Altezza lights, a 2JZ engine, and a cool dashboard. There's literally plenty of awesome things about this car. Best of all, it doesn't have the ugly grilles like what you see in a new Lexus. To sum it up, it's basically my dream car.

I want to buy a stock manual IS300 in great condition (no paint peels, easy reversible mods if any, and well-kept interior preferably in all leather seats and tan interior). I've seen plenty of these cars in great condition, but they are all in automatic transmission. It's hard for me to find a clean one in manual transmission. And when I do find one, it's overpriced. When I take ownership of one, I will definitely keep the car stock.

How much does a clean stock IS300 manual usually go for? What's the fair price, assuming the car has around 80,000 miles to 150,000 miles? 200,000 miles and above?

Hi Guys

My company is sponsoring an antibullying campaign with the Houston Texans. Employees nominate their children’s elementary school and then the public votes on them. The winner gets Toro the Texans mascot to come visit their school.

If you have a moment could you please do me a solid and vote for Lovett Elementary?

Thinking of selling the GS...

I’m pretty bored with this car and looking to get in to something I can mod..CTS-V, Jeep SRT8, etc. Should I part out or sell the car modded? I know it would take longer to sell modded, but I’m in no rush. It’s paid off and just sits in the garage..I’d rather someone enjoy it as much as I have in the past...That being said..it blue books for about $21-22k stock. I know you don’t get back all of your money in mods..just curious what it’s worth modded.

f sport front bumper w/lip
JDM fog lights for fsport bumper

Illuminated door sills
im sure I’m forgetting something..but that should give you a good idea of what’s done to the car..

Tire Recommendations Staggered and Normal

$
0

Hi All!
I could use some of your collective experience on tire selection. Located in southern Wisconsin so we do get some snow.

The plan is to have two sets of rims and wheels, summer and winter. The winter tires will be used on the 19" stock sport rims that came with the vehicle. There are a couple of spots on the rims where the chrome is coming off so exposing them to snow and salt is a non-event for me. The car is a RWD but that is not a concern. I grew up with that in the north and snow and the traction control helps keep things under control.

The summer set up will be on staggered 20" rims. Fronts will be 8.5 x 20 and rear 10 x 20. I have debated on the wheel size for the staggered set up and decided that 20" was my limit.

What tires would you recommend for both winter and summer. Tire noise is my main concern followed by traction. Not looking for super sticky summer tires and do not want to have a winter tire that will not perform well in the cold.

Looked at available tires for this set up, front-245/40/20, rear-275/35/20. Read many of the threads on tire suggestions and compared what was available to those recommended. Only 1 or 2 of the recommended tires are available in the staggered sizes; Continential DSW & Michelin pilot.

So what say ye for :
Summer Staggered set up in 20"
Tire Rack has the following in order of rating: Anyone using any of these?
#1 Pilot Sport S4
#2 Pilot Sport
#3 Conti ExtremeContact Sport
#4 Conti DWS 06

Winter stock set up in 19"

TIA
