Novel RCF Build thread - Molten Pearl w/ Perf. Pkg/TVD

Hey guys, I just wanted to share my Novel RCF build. I purchased my car back in late April of this year at Longo Lexus. It took them about 2 weeks to locate this color w/ the TVD + perf package and they shipped it up from Carlsbad Lexus. On June 6th, I ordered all my Novel parts from Bulletproof Automotive. I ordered the headers, exhaust and CF lip kit. Bo is the man at Bulletproof! :) I'll be updating this thread as I get my parts in. This is all for now....

Within 2 weeks, I lowered the car on RSR Springs and got some 20" Advan GT Premium and put in drop in filter by AFE.

Mid July, Tanabe was looking for a RCF to test fit their axle back exhaust (Tanabe Touring Medallion). Supposedly will be available to the public later this year. Personally, I like the oval tips better than the Tanabe round tips. I can't wait until the Novel exhaust comes in. :D

Fast forward to mid September, my headers finally arrived!! I'm still waiting for my lip kit and exhaust, it's should be here very soon. They missed the container, so Novel is air shipping the items so the car can make it to SEMA this year. From the vid clips, you can't tell too much, but when you're driving, you can definitely feel the top end is more responsive. Car sounds much better/beefier than just with the axle back. Can't wait to put on the Novel full catback!

Wreked my car, curious on what u guys think it may be worth

So i recently wreked the nose of my car, 1998 sc300 and i am curious anout what u guys think i should be able to sell it for. It is a vvti ge-t with an mk4 w58 in it. The car is driveable as all the damage was done in front of the suspension, the ac even works still. But the frame and nose are pushed over to the point that its not worth fixing. I will add pictures later since its like 5am atm, but considering all the parts that are on it like the 98 rear bumper, tail lights , 5 speed conversion with act 6puck, i also have an older cast manifold, and full 3 inch exhaust i made with v band clamps, dual mufflers what do u guys feel it may be worth,

2013+ Control Arm/Bushings better than pre '13?

Hey gang, after reading all the posts about upper and lower control arm wear/failures on the LS460, I'm wondering if Lexus has in fact addressed this with a worthy upgrade/fix about this situation, or is their attitude just to throw the same old(new) parts at it and have it fail in another 50k miles? I really don't want to throw $4k+ at the car every 50,000 miles because the front end pieces fail...that's just ridiculous, yet I know the problem is real.

I really want to get the new LS460 F-Sport, but I just can't justify it if they haven't came up with a REAL upgrade or improvement. Is it just a shoddy design with too much stress on the parts, or what? A Lexus has no business having this negative attribute, IMO.

Thanks, all.

Thinking about Adams rotors

So my rotors need replacing in the next couple thousand miles and I'm going to give adams rotors a try. My question is which pattern do I go for? I'm trying to decide between the slotted, double slotted, and double slotted & dimpled rotors. I'm looking for a set of rotors that will last longer than the OEM ones and have the same stopping power, if not better. Also I do wan't to go to the track sometime (but i'm not sure when). My first choice is the AR Track double slotted and dimpled rotors, but what do you guys think? I'm no brake guru so any insight is much appreciated:)
Thanks in advance:D

2011 ES350 shakes when idling in drive (only).

I purchased a 2011 ES350 today with 38k miles. I didn't notice it at the time of purchase, but the moment I put it into drive with my foot on the brake (idling), the passenger seat does a little dance. It's not terrible, and doesn't shake much while driving, but I would much rather it not be there because it's taking away from the experience of driving this beautiful luxury car.

On a different note, I had a 1999 ES300 that I recently gave to my 85yr old grandpa. The car now has 115k miles on it...it does not shake, and it drives like a dream.

Something is seriously wrong with this picture...hmm maybe I should ask my grandpa to trade :dunno:

Any help in the matter would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

2JZ-GTE VVti in VVti SC300

$

so I bought a super clean 98 SC300 (vvti of course). Just curious, I know the in's and out's of the mechanical aspects of doing a 2JZ-GTE vvti swap done. What I am curious about is what ECU can both run the engine and interface with the SC300 body connectors? From reading it appears that the Aristo ECU might be able to do everything, though the body connectors, which are broken up into 5 separate connectors are, are one large connector on the Aristo.

I am not into this for some crazy drag strip monster I just wanted something that is close to as quick as my IS350 is, perhaps 300-350whp, which means at MOST a set of USDM twins or reworked Aristo's if I get bored with the stock Aristo's. I see that most people do piggyback setups but that looks like a huge pain in the a$$. So I was hoping that I could either run the Aristo's ECU or perhaps somehow reprogram the stock SC300 to work with the Aristo 2JZ-GTE (yeah, probably impossible).

I understand tuning, though have sadly no experience actually doing it, and an AEM or other standalone is completely out of the question, just way too much money involved in a side project/hobby.

Last question, was thinking of going NA-T if money gets short and I can't go 2JZ-GTE, the big question is, even with a thicker head gasket installed I still have domed instead of dished pistons, not ideal for FI, plus the rods on the VVTI motors are weaker, so that may be a concern. Though what boost levels have NA-T guys reliably maintained?

F-Sport Vs Ark Vs Exhaust

Hey Guys,

I've been reading here on a lot and watching a bunch of videos. I think I came down to two different exhausts I may be interested, F-Sport vs Ark. Any suggestions you guys have? I know F-Sport is pretty pricey for what it is.

All I'm really looking for is something a little louder than stock. The stock gives a nice teaser between 1.5k - 2k, something a little louder would be nice. I couldn't find any Ark cabin driving videos on youtube, does anybody have any? I don't want a video of someone smashing it, just normal driving. Any for f-sport would be helpful too!

CRC MAF cleaner to clean 2006 IS350?

Hi,

I have a spray bottle of CRC MAF cleaner. However, instruction says it should not be used for "most of the Lexus and Toyotas" especially ones with Karman Vortex type MAF.

Can this be used to clean MAF of 2006 IS350?

💡 Photos of my LED Bulb Replacement in Cargo Area

After two previous failed attempts due to the wrong sized LED bulbs, I finally was able to swap out the original incandescent bulbs in the cargo area with LEDs. 💡

It makes quite a difference in illumination. I am very happy with the results. See the before and after image below. 👀

The LEDs I used were 28 mm, 12-SMD LED bulbs. These are replacements for DE3175 bulbs (which Mazda put in their Mazda 3 vehicles). The official lamp of the NX cargo incandescent bulb is DE3022, but the first LED bulbs I bought were much too long to fit in the cargo lamp fixture. The second bulbs were shorter in length (30mm) and were also DE3022 replacements. I thought I could make the 30mm bulbs fit, but they wouldn't. I then came to the conclusion that there is no standard length for a DE3022 bulb.

Finally, I found these (http://goo.gl/AEGNMV) on Amazon. These particular LEDs are unidirectional so that it throws all the light into the cargo area (no wasted light as in the omnidirectional LEDs).

Since this was my third attempt, I completed the cargo light conversion in less than 10 minutes. 🕙

I currently use an S2000 as DD. Had it for almost 15 years now. Time to get something else.
Thought about an M3 or RS4 or C63 but not sure if I want a car with potential issues. First and foremost the DD has to be reliable. The weekend car can be temperamental. However, I still want a fun car for DD.

not too many listed on CL, Autotraders, or cars.com. Lots of IS350 but not too many ISF.
Went to see the one at a Toyota Dealer in Fremont (for those in Norcal). '12 silver. Has "supercharged" stickers on the fender below the "F". Red seats. Spoiler. Not sure if anyone here is familiar with it.

Exhaust has nice deep rumble - first thing I noticed when the engine turned on. Transmission is nice. Not like the Slushbox in my RX350. already familiar with paddle shifter so that's nice - although the shifter paddle are smaller than I'm used to. Good acceleration. comfy.

Will test drive the IS350 then decide. really leaning toward ISF but not sure if I want to spend the extra $10-15K.

Becoming a skilled driver on track days

I have read that one of the most important upgrade is to go to driving school. Are there any videos, books of driving schools near the Atlanta area? I want some lessons/education to help prevent running into a wall or swap paint with someone else on the track.

For people that track do you purchase the special racing insurance?

Will running Mich PSS be suffice for track day?

Did I fell to mention that racing is quite expensive. Are there cheaper alternatives beside autocross?
